Chapter Blog

The Alpha Theta chapter had a huge turnout for our Fireside Chat chapter meeting! Dr. Allison K. Chase came and spoke to the chapter about anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, and eating disorders in general. She talked not only about how the dangers of these diseases, but how to notice when a friend is suffering and what to do. She also talked about positive body image and how important that is for girls everywhere and of all ages. Eating disorders are not limited to teenage girls: they can happen very young and old as well. It may sound like a difficult topic, but Dr. Chase presented it so well everyone in the chapter learned something and was engaged the entire time she spoke. This was our second awesome sisterhood event for the fall semester thanks to junior Kiko Taniguchi (Human Resources Director)!

Thank you Alumnae Engagement director Jenny Cale for planning a spectacular Halloween Party! Turnout was amazing and every detail of the party was so well thought through. The trick or treaters got to walk through the house and see decorated doors of all the house girls as well! Some people even went above and beyond and decorated their entire room. This party is such a great way for Austin area alumnae to keep in touch with Thetas at UT and for all of us to keep in touch with our network.

This year's Big/Little Reveal was a blast. Instead of little's finding their big sister's at the Theta House, we did an entire dinner party and barge for the freshman and sophomores. The freshman still went to the Theta House and found a costume and then they went to Abel's on the Lake where they looked for a sophomore in a matching outfit! The Freshman and sophomores had dinner and hung out at Abel's on the Lake for a few hours and then went on a barge to celebrate 2015 big/little reveal!

Congratulations to the Theta Soccer Team! Freshman through senior Thetas have been competing all fall against other sororities and on Monday night, they won the championship playing against UT Chi Omegas! Theta won 2-1. The season was a successful one and some of the members are getting ready for basketball season!

This year's Theta Parents Weekend was a huge success! From the chapter wide dinner at Abel's on the lake- with over four hundred people filling the entire restaurant, to the Shop Theta Event on Friday, to Block party before the game and the silent auction, to going to the game on Saturday afternoon, to the different dinners people did with their parents on Saturday night! Tons of parents showed up to all the events making every event a success.

Here sophomores Catherine Murray, McCall Montz, and Averie Bartlett take a picture after dinner with their parents at Threadgill's after Block Party and the game!

Alpha Thetas had another huge turnout this year for the CASA 5k this fall on Sunday, September 13! This race is put on by our charity CASA to raise awareness and support for children in the court system who need advocates. The runners primarily dress up as superheros in honor of CASA's motto that some kids need not just any hero, but a superhero!

Thetas come in matching tshirts and can be spotted throughout the 5K because of the (this year) green shirts! This year we had 130 members of the chapter wake up at 6:30 in the morning to go to the run. The chapter made a fun morning out of the event by having Texas Honey Ham breakfast tacos before getting on the bus and then receiving the 2015 CASA shirt designed by our CMO Luisa Fuqua and the tshirt committee! Thank you to all the Thetas who helped make this year a success!
